DS Joe Moffat: Joe Moffat is presented as a leader mostly strict and hard working  

Chief Super Robert Vickers: Robert Vickers is presented as a more angry and seriously character 

DC Carl Hawkings: Carl Hawkings is presented as a more calm and careless character 

DI felix Kane: Felix Kane is a more secretive fearless character dose his job but is very secretive 

PC Donna Prager: Donna Prager is a more funny hard working character

PC Lino Moretti: Lino Moretti has a more humours side also also looked at as the clown who's good at the job




















  • Find an example of how the audience might identify with a particular character or situation in this episode: Ryan Draper because he's a brave caring farther hard working and many people are so they relate to him.

  • Where do we see examples of social realism: Jake and Ryan chasing that woman who then sexually harassed jake in public he later go spat on this is obvious examples of police Realism.



















  • The exciting scenes are mainly the fast moving intense build up sense like the car chase that was full of suspense but then put to a end when jake messes up.


















  • The scene when Ryan is on the sofa brushing his daughters hair watching his son do homework is a family scene which could cause conversation

  • PC Jake Vickers: presented as a Nervous, immature and has potential on the field but is rather new to things and acts scared/ in the raid, gets back up on the wrong road.
  • PC Lino Moretti: has a more humours side also also looked at as the clown who's good at the job/ Eating his food but gets an important call brings his food with  him.

A Theme is a central topic, subject, or message within a narrative 

How poorly the police are treated but the public are treated nicely by the police even tho they're abused by the public.

A stereotype is shown when Ryan pulls over his car to talk to his teen son who is skipping school this is a stereotype.

  • Solicitor has power + respect/ costume-suit-smart attire
interview with Jo Moffat to refuse to make his client help the police.
  • Jake Vickers + scared/brave/ defending Ryan against the racist 
Ryan was cornered by the white guy and jake went and knocked him out showing he's not scared and is brave. 



  • Positive view of multiculturalism reflects 2015 attitudes- family boy who is at University in the UK.

How can this been seen in the episode? 

Positive view of multiculturalism is when Lino Moretti goes back for his sandwich after the important police call.

  • Difference in ethnicity are accepted, yes by the police attitudes and the main character as from varied ethnic backgrounds.

How can this be seen in the episode? 

Jake and Ryan go to the white guys house who's been hurt and helped him and the police aren't racist to the people that are racist.

  • Racism still exists in Britain-racist group, attack in the shop

Racist group negatively represented uneducated, white-working class drinking, drugs-no job racism outdated.

 In cuffs we see that representation of gender are shown through the male characters for example PC Ryan breaks the stereotype by being soft and more emotional around his children which also leaks through while he's having ago at PC Jake due to Ryan worrying for him like a parent.

How has SOUND been used to CREATE MEANING? [5]

  • Soundtrack- The recorded sound element of a film.
  • Theme music/tune- A recurrent melody in the film. 
  • Sound effects- Sounds other than dialogue or music made artificially (often referred to as foley sound.)
  • Ambient sound- buzz and/or surrounding sounds.
  • Dialogue- Speech.

Sound has created meaning by The Ambient sounds of seagulls, waves and beach scene match location and emphasis setting, juxtaposed with non- diagetic sound that builds tension and mystery to the setting, Bridge sound carries the tension to another scene carrying the meaning.

I think three examples is a good thing to do as it gives you something to follow and remember make rules if you will but you'll have to make a judgment at the end of your analysis. 

To answer the question, you need to consider the following questions.

  • Why is tension created there? what are we supposed to feel? 
  • How has the extract done this? (what techniques have been used here)
